Epitome of Ikea!

I found this in a friends backyard in St Kilda, I guess it suits the decor of the dwelling but what does this say for design?
Form over function, or form over durability, I'm not sure but it sure is not timeless design. Can you see the honeycomb cardboard structure that is sandwhiched between 2 x layers of mdf? My friend told me this is only 1 year old.
